LEAFLETS...

- For the first time in almost eight years the team will play at home during the Christmas Holidays on Dec. 29 & 30.

- All 80 St. John's Maple Leafs games during the 2004-05 season will be broadcast LIVE on Radio NL (930AM) and on the team's website at www.sjmapleleafs.ca.

- St. John's will begin its 14th and final season in the AHL Friday, October 15 against the Syracuse Crunch.

- The Maple Leafs will play 16 home games before Christmas and 24 from Jan. 3 to Apr. 16.

- St. John's has over 10 players returning from last season including Harold Druken, Brad Leeb and Marc Moro.

MAPLE LEAFS TO WATCH...

Scott May (F): Toronto's 7th choice, 222nd overall in 2002. May played 41 games for Ohio State and collected 34 points (15G,19A) with 42 PIMs.

Chris St. Jacques (F): St. Jacques signed as a free agent June 2, 2004. Chris played 64 games for Medicine Hat of the WHL in 03-04 and tallied 92 points (33G,59A).

Kyle Wellwood (F): Last Season's AHL rookie Scoring Champ returns for his sophomore season. Wellwood will be out to prove last season wasn't a one year deal.

Carlo Colaiacovo (D): Colaiacovo will be one of the team's offensive threats this season. Avoiding any injuries Colaiacovo could lead all AHL defence in points.

Ian White (D): Toronto's 6th choice, 220th overall in 2003. White played 68 games in Swift Current of the WHL in 03-04 and tallied 101 points (52G,49A).

NORTH DIVISION...

The divisional alignment will see the St. John's Maple Leafs once again play in the Western Conference in the North Division with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Manitoba Moose, Cleveland Barons, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch and the new Edmonton Roadrunners. St. John's will play 28 of their 40 home games and 56 of their 80 overall games against divisional opponents. As a result the club will face the Bulldogs twelve (12) times (6 home, 6 away), the Roadrunners twelve (12) times (6 home, 6 away), the Moose eight (8) times (4 home, 4 away), the Barons eight (8) times (4 home, 4 away), the Americans eight (8) times (4 home, 4 away) and the Crunch eight (8) times (4 home, 4 away).

PRESEASON OPPONENTS...

The Hamilton Bulldogs announced the hockey club's 2004 Training Camp roster. The Bulldogs 32 hopefuls, including some of the Montreal Canadiens top prospects, joined head coach Doug Jarvis and assistant coach Ron Wilson for the first on-ice session at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29th at the new Haldimand County Caledonia Centre in Caledonia, Ontario.

The Montreal Canadiens, the Bulldogs' parent club, have assigned 21 players to the Bulldogs including goaltenders Yann Danis and Olivier Michaud, defencemen Andrew Archer, Jean-Philippe Cote, Mike Komisarek, Philippe Plante and Matt Shasby, and forwards Benjamin Carpentier, Benoit Dusablon, Jonathan Ferland, Chris Higgins, Raitis Ivanans, Andrei Kostitsyn, Michael Lambert, Christian Larrivee, Corey Locke, Duncan Milroy, Gavin Morgan, Tomas Plekanec, Marc-Andre Thinel and Cory Urquhart.

The NHL's Dallas Stars assigned four players to the Bulldogs. Those players are goaltender Dan Ellis, defenceman Trevor Daley, and forwards Antti Miettinen and Steve Ott.

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans announced their 2004 Training Camp roster. The Amerks will opened camp with 37 players on Tuesday, September 28th at the ESL Sports Centre on the campus of Monroe Community College.

The roster includes 19 players from the 2003-04 team that advanced to the American Hockey League Western Conference Finals. Some of the notable players back this season include Ryan Miller, Derek Roy, Chris Taylor, Jason Botterill, Milan Bartovic, Norm Milley, Jason Pominville, Doug Janik and David Cullen. In addition, Head Coach Randy Cunneyworth returns for his fifth season behind the Amerks bench, while Doug Houda remains the team's assistant coach.

OPENING WEEKEND OPPONENTS...

November 2004: Nov.12 vs Chicago The Baby Leafs will start the 04-05 season on the road facing the Syracuse Crunch in their home opener Friday, October 15th. The game will be broadcast LIVE on Radio NL (930AM) and www.sjmapleleafs.ca at 8:30pm (NT).

St. John's will visit Portland Pirates for their one and only time this season on Saturday, Oct.16 at 8:05pm and Sunday, October 17 at 5:05pm (NT). Both games will be broadcast LIVE on Radio NL and www.sjmapelelafs.ca.

LEAFS FOUNDATION ACTIVITIES...

Annual Charity Golf Classic –

The annual Charity Golf Classic is held prior to the start of each hockey season. The tournament provides a unique experience with Newfoundland's only professional sports team as golfers have the opportunity to tee off with Coach Doug Shedden and the entire Maple Leafs hockey team. Funds raised go to the Leafs Foundation in support of local charities. Last years event raised a total of $24, 561. This season's tournament will take place October 12 @ Clovelly Golf Course.

Annual Leafs Wives' Charity Carnival – Each season, the players' wives, with the assistance of the Maple Leafs Community Relations department, hosts a charity carnival with the proceeds benefiting local charities.

The carnival provides the teams' fans with an opportunity to get up close and personal with their favorite players and to interact with them during a fun filled afternoon in a unique environment. Over $250,000 has been raised since the first Wives' Carnival in 1995, with last season's event on March 7, 2004 totaling $27, 292 for charity. This Year's Charity Carnival will take place December 12/04 at Mile One Stadium.

Education Programs –

The St. John's Maple Leafs know the importance of education and have designed several programs to assist local schools.

Goin' for Goals and Read with the Leafs are two examples of programs that encourage children to pursue academics and achieve to the best of their ability.

THIS WEEK IN LEAFS HISTORY...

October 3/94 - The Toronto Maple Leafs acquire forwards Dixon Ward, Guy Leveque, Kelly Fairchild and Shayne Toporowski from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for St. John's defenceman Chris Snell, forward Eric Lacroix and a fourth round draft pick in the 1996 entry draft.

October 6/00 - The Leafs open up the 2000-2001 AHL season, their last at Memorial Stadium by slipping past the Saint John Flames 2-1 in overtime. Alexei Ponikarovsky scores the winner just one minute into the extra session.
