Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB -- The Medicine Hat Tigers welcomed their first US Division foe to the Canalta Centre on Wednesday night as the visiting Spokane Chiefs were looking to pick up their 2nd win in their past 9 games.

Spokane started out of the gate as only 51 seconds in, Nik Andersen potted a back door feed from Adam Helewka on an early power play to kick start the scoring for the visitors. The goal would be the only one on 7 shots in the frame on Tigers netminder Nick Schneider as he made his first start in the past 4 games. The Tigers also welcomed 15 year olds Josh McNeil and Baxter Anderson to the lineup. McNeil, fresh off his 2 point performance Saturday looked good alongside Anderson and Zach Fischer, providing the Tabbies with energy thoughout the game. The period would end 1-0 for Spokane with Medicine Hat leading in shots 10-7.

Earlier in the day the Tigers traded last season's leading scorer in Trevor Cox to Vancouver, but Wednesday night it was current leading scorer Steven Owre who started the scoring for the Tigers. Owre received a good pass from Alex Mowbray and came in on a 2 on 1 choosing to keep the puck and shoot firing one past Tyson Verhelst to knot things up at 1. Moments later Matt Bradley gave the home side the lead with his 3rd of the season, assisting on the play were rookies Tyler Prezuiso and Caleb Fantillo. Medicine Hat's USA rookie Max Gerlach found the scoresheet later as he potted home a loose puck for his 4th of the season giving the Tigers a 2 goal lead late. However, Spokane would cut into the lead on a weird play. Nonetheless the Tigers took a 3-2 lead into the break.

Gerlach and Fantillo continued their hot night as the latter found the scoresheet on a beautiful top shelf wrister in tight for his 3rd of the season just over a minute into the frame. Fantillo was left all alone in front and Preziuso found him to increase the lead 4-2. Gerlach would also join in for his second of the game and 5th of the season as he came streaking down the wing and fired a puck bar down on Verhelst. With the goal, Gerlach sits second on the team in goals, just behind Owre. Mason Shaw would add one more as the Tigers came away with a 6-2 victory.

THREE STARS OF THE GAME:

1. MAX GERLACH - MH - (2G, 1A)

2. CHAD BUTCHER - MH - (3A)

3. MASON SHAW - MH - (1G, 2A)

The Tigers have the weekend off until Sunday as the Red Deer Rebels come to town for a 6pm start. Tickets are still available online through ticketmaster or by calling 1-855-985-5000.
