Wheat Kings Score Comeback Win
October 29, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Everett, WA. - The Brandon Wheat Kings tour through the Western Hockey League's U.S. Division has come to an end.
The Wheat Kings scored their second overtime shootout victory in less than a week and snapped a 2-game losing streak in the process with a 3-2 come from behind win over the Silvertips in Everett Wednesday night.
Reid Duke scored the only goal of the shootout as the Wheat Kings improved to 4-2-0 on their season high 8-game road trip and 9-3-0-2 overall.
Goals by Carson Stadnyk in the first and Dario Winkler's first WHL goal early in the second gave Everett a 2-0 lead, before Brandon bounced back with goals by Rihards Bukarts and Braylon Shmyr to even the score and force the two teams to settle this one in overtime.
Shots on goal were 41-22 in favor of the Wheat Kings, who received a solid start by rookie goalkeeper Logan Thompson. In addition to twenty saves during the game, the Calgary product stopped all three shootout attempts.
"He almost looked more confident as the shootout went on. Once he made one save it just seemed to give him a little bit of a boost and he was real solid on the second and third," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "Logan made the saves he needed to. He made a couple of good saves early in the third when Everett had a couple of odd-man looks."
With the win, Brandon moved into a three way tie for second place in the Eastern Conference, three points back of the Prince Albert Raiders.
Brandon returns to Canada Thursday and will close out this two week excursion with stops in Cranbrook and Moose Jaw on Friday and Sunday nights, before playing host to the Victoria Royals next Friday night - Team Poster Night - presented by Rocky Mountain Equipment.
Tickets to that game are on sale at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com.
