Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Alex Dickerson roped a two-run homer over the right-field wall breaking a seventh inning tie and spearheading the Curve's, 5-2, victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Peoples Natural Gas Field. The win, in front of 4,411 on Wednesday night, lifted Altoona's season-best winning streak to seven. The string of victories now matches the Curve's best streak in 2012, which spanned May 15 through May 21.

With the Fisher Cats up a pair in the fourth inning, Altoona's offense went to work. Mel Rojas, Jr. lead off the bottom of the inning with a hard double into the left-field corner. After an Adalberto Santos strikeout, Gregory Polanco drove a deep line drive to the right-field wall for an RBI triple. Dickerson followed with a sacrifice fly to centerfield that tied the game at two.

Effective pitching and defense from both teams rendered the bats quiet until the bottom of the seventh inning. Polanco whistled a double past New Hampshire first baseman Clint Robinson's glove. Dickerson then hit his homer just inside the foul pole in right-field for a two-run homer and the 4-2 lead.

Jarek Cunningham followed the shot with a long triple that cleared the glove of sprinting right-fielder Brad Glenn. Charlie Cutler then hit a sharp line drive past the shortstop for a single, scoring Cunningham for the final run and a 5-2 lead.

Dickerson finished 1-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored. Polanco flashed impressive power and game-changing speed, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Eliecer Navarro was up to the task in his first Double-A start. He tossed six innings, striking out five while giving up two runs (one earned) and walking two. Ethan Hollingsworth and Luis Sanz were both effective in relief. Hollingsworth (3-3) earned the win, allowing one hit while striking out one and walking none in two innings of work. Sanz locked up his fifth save, giving up one hit and striking out one batter in the ninth.

The Curve (32-37) will look to extend their winning streak to eight against the Fisher Cats (33-38) at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Peoples Natural Gas Field. Altoona hasn't won eight straight since May 20 - May 26 of 2010.

Game three of the series is the first giveaway in the Altoona Curve Party Pack Series. The first 500 fans who are 21 and older will receive the Kings of Curve, Pa. On the mound for the Curve in the finale will be RHP Casey Sadler (7-4, 2.98), who grabbed a win to start this homestand back on Friday night. He'll be opposed by Fisher Cats starter Ryan Tepera (6-5, 4.22) in the finale. Altoona's starters in the series have allowed just one earned run in 29.2 innings pitched.
