New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

ALTOONA, PA- Brian Van Kirk hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to give the Fisher Cats a lead for the first time all night, but Altoona tied the game in the bottom of the frame and won the game 5-4 in 10 innings on Tuesday night.

Altoona's Adalberto Santos delivered the game-winning single off Tyson Brummett (0-4), the hit coming after the teams waited out an 88-minute rain delay which started with New Hampshire batting in the top of the 10th inning. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Curve (31-37).

The starting pitchers were tremendous. Altoona's David Bromberg blanked the Fisher Cats over the first seven innings, allowing four hits, walking one with seven strikeouts.

Marcus Walden matched his career-high for New Hampshire (33-37) working 7.2 innings, leaving after allowing a two-run home run to Santos in the eighth that gave the Curve a 3-1 lead.

Altoona could not close out the game at that point. New Hampshire's Kevin Nolan started a ninth inning rally with a single and Adam Loewen walked. Van Kirk then took a 1-2 pitch into the bleachers above the left field wall for his first home run of the season and a 4-3 lead.

Altoona tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Alex Dickerson doubled, moved to third on a fly out by Jarek Cunningham, scoring on a single by Andy Vazquez through a drawn in infield.

Earlier in the game, the Curve's Charlie Cutler tripled and scored on Carlos Paulino's single for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

A.J. Jimenez delivered a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning for the first New Hampshire run. Kevin Pillar (3-for-5), who had singled, scored to tie the game at 1-1.

Kevin Kasparek (3-1) earned the win in relief for Altoona.

The series continues on Wednesday with a 7:05pm game against the Curve at Peoples Natural Gas Field. RHP Deck McGuire (3-6, 5.45) starts for the Fisher Cats against Altoona LHP Eliecer Navarro, who will be making his Double-A debut. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
