Fightins' Five Game Winning Streak Snapped with Split

READING, Pa.---Starting pitcher Seth Rosin threw his first career complete game to lead the Reading Fightin Phils (28-39) to their fifth game in a row with a 4-1 defeat over the Portland Sea Dogs (35-32) in Game One. The streak came to an end in Game Two when Charlie Haeger and the Sea Dogs halted the Fightins, 3-0, Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.
GAME ONE
Seth Rosin threw a 7-inning complete game to set the tone for the Fightins in their Game One victory. He needed just 36 pitches to get through the first three innings, including just eight in the third. His perfect game was broken up in the fourth inning after the hurler dealt a lead off walk to Peter Hissey. Rosin's no-hitter and shutout vanished later in the frame when Michael Almanzar hit a two-out single to plate Hissey for Portland's lone run of the night.
Rosin completed his outing by allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out five to pick up his first winning decision since May 25. He chucked 81 pitches, 56 of which were strikes.
Rosin's quality start was supported by four runs from the Reading offense. In the second inning, Reading hopped on the board after Zach Collier doubled at the start of the inning. Sebastian Valle drove in the center fielder on a groundout for the team's first run. Reading added to the lead in the next frame after Tommy Mendonca scored following an error by second baseman Derrik Gibson, a walk, and two wild pitches by Matt Barnes.
Mendonca figured in the run total again when the Fightins increased their lead in the fifth inning. The designated hitter's double and Edgar Duran's second single of the game set the stage for clean-up hitter Jim Murphy. Murphy proceeded to rip a double through the middle of the infield for his third RBI in the past two games. The slugging first baseman also singled in the first inning.
GAME TWO
Portland starter Charlie Haeger held Reading scoreless over his 5 2/3 innings pitched as the season-long five-game win streak came to a close. The southpaw limited the Fightins to just four hits as he rolled to fourth win of the season.
Reading reliever Bobby Bramhall started for Reading in Game Two and made it through two innings unscathed before the Sea Dogs would tack on three runs. Heiker Meneses reached first base after Andy Gonzalez made a fielding error at third base. Bramhall recorded outs against two of the next three batters he faced, but Shannon Wilkerson was walked to put two men on base for Portland. Bramhall issued another walk in the inning before Travis Shaw hit a two-out double to score the decisive three runs.
Kyle Simon, Mike Nesseth, and Luis Garcia combined for 4 1/3 scoreless innings out of the Reading bullpen, but the offense couldn't get anything going against Haeger and Rafael Perez, who picked up his first save of the season.
Mendonca and the returning Miguel Abreu each had a pair of hits in the second game of the twin-bill.
RHP Brody Colvin (2-0, 4.45 ERA) of the Reading Fightin Phils squares off against RHP Anthony Ranaudo (7-1, 2.15 ERA) in the third game of the four-game series. Fightins Fillers: Rosin's complete game was the third thrown by a Reading hitter this season. The first two were both thrown by Jesse Biddle...After going without an RBI since May 30th, Murphy now has three in the past three games....The Fightins have now split all four doubleheaders they have played in this season.
