Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn . - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (4-4-1-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, split a pair of road games last weekend as the club continued its stretch of eight straight contests against Atlantic Division rivals. Islanders prospect Sebastian Aho, who made his NHL debut last December, led the way offensively with three assists, while Christopher Gibson (3-3-0) and Jeremy Smith (1-1-1) both saw action in the crease.

Aho and Ryan Bourque headlined Saturday's game against the Hartford Wolf Pack (4-6-1-0), which saw the Sound Tigers rally back on two different occasions to earn a 5-4 win at the XL Center. Bourque, a former Hartford captain, scored twice and Aho recorded a season-high three helpers in the back-and-forth affair that saw each team lead at least twice. Between the pipes, Gibson made 23 saves in a gutsy effort to secure the win, while Steve Bernier netted the eventual game-winner with a deflection from the doorstep on the power play. Bernier now leads the Sound Tigers with five goals and three power-play tallies in nine games this season.

Bridgeport's win was its second this season when trailing after two periods (2-2-0-0).

Less than 24 hours later, the Sound Tigers allowed a season-high four goals in the second period and suffered a 6-1 loss to the Providence Bruins (3-5-1-0) at Dunkin' Donuts Center. Cameron Hughes recorded his first professional hat trick and Zach Senyshyn also scored twice for the Bruins, while Seth Helgeson netted the Sound Tigers' lone tally - his first of the season.

It was Bridgeport's fifth straight setback in Rhode Island dating back to Feb. 16, 2017. The loss also snapped Bridgeport's two-game win streak and Gibson's personal three-game win streak overall. Gibson started the contest and made 14 saves in 26:41, but he was pulled less than seven minutes into the second period and Smith stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced in the final 33:19.

Bridgeport returns to action this weekend with its second "three-in-three" of the season - all games against division rivals. Bridgeport will face the Springfield Thunderbirds (6-0-0-2) in a home-and-home series on Friday and Saturday, before welcoming the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (5-2-0-1) to the Park City on Sunday. Slimmest of Margins: Six of Bridgeport's nine games this season have been decided by just a single goal, including Saturday's 5-4 win at Hartford. That leads the Eastern Conference and is tied with the Milwaukee Admirals for the most in the AHL overall. The Sound Tigers are 4-1-1-0 in one-goal outcomes this season.
