New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Reading, PA - The Fisher Cats set a franchise record with six home runs, including two each by Adam Loewen and Danny Perales and Zach Stewart allowed just one hit in six innings as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats rolled to a 15-5 win Wednesday night in Reading against the Phillies.
Stewart (3-1) picked up his first win since May 2. He walked two and matched his season-high with six strikeouts.
The Fisher Cats hit two home runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead against Reading starter and losing pitcher Phillippe Aumont (1-6). Perales hit the fifth pitch he saw from Aumont, in his first Eastern League game, for a home run to make it 1-0. After Shawn Bowman reached on an infield single, Adam Loewen drilled his sixth home run to right field to make it 3-0.
New Hampshire (34-20) extended the lead in the top of the second inning. Brian Jeroloman walked, Callix Crabbe singled and Perales walked to load the bases before Eric Thames ripped a grand slam over the centerfield wall to make it 7-0. For Thames, it was his club-leading 11th home run of the season.
Reading (21-30) scored its only run against Fisher Cats starter Zach Stewart in the bottom of the third inning. Ozzie Chavez led off with a walk and moved to third on a single by Quintin Berry and scored on a fielders choice ground ball by Michael Spidale to make it 7-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Perales homered for the second time in the game to put the Fisher Cats up 8-1. And he added another RBI, his third, with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the seventh inning. Brian Jeroloman, who had also been hit-by-pitch, scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-1.
In the top of the eighth inning, after Loewen singled and Jaspe walked, David Cooper capped a 16 pitch at bat by drilling a three-run homer to make it 13-1.
Loewen hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, in the top of the ninth inning to make it 15-1.
Reading tacked on four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on five hits.
New Hampshire also received strong pitching from RHP Ronald Uviedo, who made his Fisher Cats debut by pitching two scoreless innings.
The Fisher Cats conclude the three-game series Thursday afternoon in Reading. LHP Chuck Huggins (0-1, 3.38) is scheduled to start for New Hampshire against Reading LHP Yohan Flande (3-4, 2.85). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 1:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
