Thunder Walk Off with Win over Portland

Trenton, NJ - Daniel Brewer grounded in Brandon Laird in the bottom of the ninth inning for a 1-0 win over Portland on Wednesday night at Waterfront Park. Trenton (31-21) won their 12th consecutive game at home, behind strong pitching from David Phelps and Eric Wordekemper.

RHP David Phelps pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball, while allowing four hits and striking out seven. He would not factor into decision for the fifth straight start.

Portland RHP Robert Coello made his second start against Trenton this season, and allowed just three hits in 5 2/3 innings of work, while striking out 11 batters. It was the first time an opposing pitcher struck out the Thunder lineup more than ten times since Pedro Martinez struck out 11 Thunder hitters on August 5, 2009 in a rehab appearance with the Reading Phillies.

Eric Wordekemper (3-0) earned the win pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth innings. Wordekemper walked one and did not allow a hit in the victory. Both teams had four hits apiece entering the ninth inning including a double and single from Austin Romine. With a double in the fourth inning, Romine extended his hitting streak to 14 consecutive games.

The Thunder and Sea Dogs conclude their series on Thursday night, starting at 7:05 PM. LHP Wilkin de la Rosa makes his second straight start for Trenton, while Portland gives the ball to RHP Ryne Miller.
