Slumping Squirrels Drop Fourth Straight, 5-1

RICHMOND, VA - The Harrisburg Senators stymied the Richmond Flying Squirrels for the second consecutive night, prevailing, 5-1, in game two of a three-games series in front of 3,433 at The Diamond on Wednesday night. With the win, Harrisburg earned the series victory and sent the Squirrels to their fourth straight defeat.

Chris Marrero got the Senators started as he led off the second inning with a double against Richmond starter Daryl Maday. Michael Martinez brought him in with an RBI single for the game's first lead.

The Squirrels tied the game with their only run of the night in the fourth inning. Tyler La Torre singled against Harrisburg right-hander Justin Jones to plate Clay Timpner who had also singled and the game was knotted after four innings.

Harrisburg quickly reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Danny Espinosa sent a solo-home run to left field off Maday for a 2-1 advantage. Maday (7-2) departed to the loss after the inning, suffering his second straight defeat after opening the season with seven consecutive wins.

Wilmin Rodriguez came on in relief for the Senators in the sixth and was quickly tagged for two runs. Edgardo Baez doubled to start the inning and Tim Pahuta also tripled as part of the rally.

The Senators capped the scoring for the night with a run on three hits against Jake Stevens in the seventh inning.

Jones (1-1) held the Squirrels down through six innings for the win. He allowed just the lone run on four hits, walking one and striking out five.

The finale of the three-game series is scheduled for 7:05 on Thursday night at The Diamond. RHP David Mixon (5-2, 3.05) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Brad Meyers (1-0, 1.26) for Harrisburg.
