'Wolves Drop Two Straight in Akron

June 2, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves dropped to three games under .500 following a 5-1 loss to the Akron Aeros on Wednesday night at Canal Park.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the second inning against Akron starter Alex White. With one out, Michael Bertram slammed his fifth home run of the season over the wall in right-center, giving Erie a 1-0 lead.

The lead would be short lived as the Aeros came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Andy Oliver. Carlos Rivero doubled to the gap in right-center for Akron's first hit of the game. Cord Phelps followed with a base knock, scoring Rivero, tying the game at 1-1.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, John Drennen and Damaso Espino hit back-to-back singles putting two on for Tim Fedroff. Fedroff grounded into what looked to be an inning-ending double play, however an error at second by Justin Henry allowed the inning to continue with the bases loaded. Lonnie Chisenhall followed and connected on a grand slam putting Akron ahead 5-1.

Erie would be limited to just four hits for the second consecutive night and the club has scored just four runs on eight hits in the first two games of the series.

Oliver (5-3) allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the losing effort. It was the second straight outing for Oliver not allowing a walk.

The SeaWolves will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday night at Canal Park...7:05 First Pitch.
