SAN ANTONIO (October 7, 2009) - The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the team will join their Texas-based American Hockey League counterparts, the Houston Aeros and Texas Stars, in an inaugural intrastate competition during the 2009-10 season known as the "Lone Star Faceoff".

"The addition of the Stars presents a tremendous opportunity to continue to grow the game of hockey in Texas," said Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Spurs Sports and Entertainment Frank Miceli. "We look forward to a spirited rivalry between all three teams."

The competition originated from a collective desire among the three participating teams to celebrate and promote the sport of hockey in the Lone Star State. The competition's title was chosen by fans through an online poll posted on each teams' respective Web site.

Terms of the competition state that each team will face off against the other two Texas teams on 12 occasions (six home, six away), respectively, during AHL regular season play. The club holding the most points between the three participants at the end of the season will be deemed champion and receive a trophy. In addition, the winning team will receive a cash donation from the second and third place teams to benefit the winning team's charity of choice.

The Rampage will travel to Houston on Oct. 16 for the first matchup against the Aeros at 7:30 p.m. at the Toyota Center. To open the 2009-10 season, the Rampage took on the Texas Stars for a home-and-home series in which the Rampage collected a win and an overtime loss to give San Antonio three points in the standings.
