
Texas To Participate In Lone Star Faceoff With In-State Rivals

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars, in conjunction with the AHL's Houston Aeros and San Antonio Rampage, announced on Tuesday the teams will compete this season in an inaugural interstate rivalry to be called the "Lone Star Faceoff".
"The Texas Stars are thrilled to be a part of the Lone Star Faceoff," said Brian Spieles, Texas' Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "We know this will only intensify what should already be a great rivalry between the three Texas teams. At the same time, this event will bring great exposure to hockey in the state."
The competition originated from a collective desire among the three participating teams to celebrate and promote the sport of hockey in the Lone Star State. The competition's title was chosen by fans through an online poll posted on each teams' respective Web site.
"The addition of the Stars presents a tremendous opportunity to continue to grow the game of hockey in Texas," said Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Spurs Sports and Entertainment Frank Miceli. "We look forward to a spirited rivalry between all three teams."
Terms of the competition state that each team will face off against the other two Texas teams on 12 occasions (six home, six away), respectively, during AHL regular season play. The club holding the most points between the three participants at the end of the season will be deemed champion and receive a trophy. In addition, the winning team will receive a cash donation from the second and third place teams to benefit the winning team's charity of choice.
"The Houston Aeros are excited to be a part of this new and exciting event," said Aeros Executive VP of Business Operations Jamie Spencer. "We play quite a few games within the state of Texas and having a little something to play for is a great incentive for both the fans and the players."
Texas will play two games in Houston next weekend prior to hosting the Grand Rapids Griffins at Cedar Park Center on Thursday, October 15th at 7:30 pm.
