FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (5-5) rallied back from a 19-point deficit but were unable to finish the fight, falling to the Stockton Kings (5-4) 101-97 Monday night.
The two teams exchanged baskets in the first, shooting 52% on both sides and seeing only a 6-point difference before tying it up 32-all at the first buzzer. Stockton put up nine unanswered points early in the second to start building up to a double-digit advantage. Taren Sullivan powered out 11 points in 10 minutes for the Kings to lead them into halftime up 61-50.
Wenyen Gabriel lit up the third, going 5-of-5 and grabbing 5 boards as the Kings built their largest lead of the night (+19). Texas turned to their bench for an answer and Donte Ingram provided five of the final 11 points that would hold the gap to 14 going into the fourth. When Stockton went back up by 19 in the fourth, Keith Hornsby took control, hitting 5-of-6 and all four of his three-point attempts. Hornsby hit back-to-back threes in the final two minutes bringing Texas within four, but the clock ran out on the rally to give Stockton the 2-0 lead on the season series.
Hornsby finished the night with 24 points, shooting 6-of-7 from outside to lead the Legends scoring efforts. Daryl Macon added 22 points, 6 rebounds, and a team-high 9 assists, and Ray Spalding came off the bench for his second straight double-double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 2 blocks.
Gabriel powered the Kings with 28 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks, while Marcus Williams added 11 points and dished out 14 assists.
Texas will head to South Bay next to take on the Lakers this Wednesday at 9pm CT. Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+.
