Red Claws Grab First Road Win of Season

Salt Lake City, UT - November 27, 2018 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, erased a three-game losing streak by grabbing its first road win of the season, taking down Salt Lake City, 118-112.

Maine (3-7) was led by their Boston Celtics Two-Way Players. P.J. Dozier was near a triple-double with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists, while Walt Lemon also scored 25 points on 9-18 shooting. Vitto Brown, making his first start of the season, recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Andrew White led the bench with 10 points.

Salt Lake City (4-5) was led by Naz Mitrou-Long with 27 points to lead all scorers.

Brown had the hot hand early - knocking in a three to give Maine a 12-7 lead less than 4:00 into the game. Dozier's driving lay-up made it a 7 point lead, but the Stars rallied back. Akeem Springs knocked in a long two to tie the game at 26. Justin Bibbs and Dozier maintained the offense for the Claws in the 1st, and Maine held a 28-26 lead after 1. Brown made 4 of 5 shots in the 1st quarter.

Lemon opened the 2nd with a three-ball to put the Claws up 5. Jeff Roberson's driving lay-up made it 39-32 in favor of Claw. Andrew White buried a triple to keep Maine on top, but SLC continued to keep pace. Dozier knocked in a triple to make it 49-42 Red Claws. Maine took a 49-46 lead into halftime. The Red Claws shot 43% (20-46) from the field and 39% (9-23) from downtown in the first half.

In the 3rd, both teams traded buckets in the early minutes. Lemon's nifty reverse lay-up gave Maine a 55-53 lead. Brown put the Claws up 4, but the Stars came back, with Tyler Cavanaugh's three off a steal putting SLC up 65-61. Dozier gave Maine the lead back at the free throw line. White buried a corner three to put the Red Claws up 4, and Dallas Lauderdale's alley-oop three-point play gave Maine a 76-70 lead. Lemon hit a three at the end of the period, and at the end of 3, Maine led Salt Lake City, 84-76.

Lemon hit a driving lay-up to open the 4th and give Maine a 10 point lead. SLC answered with 5 quick points. Nick King buried a three to stop the run, and Bibbs' strong drive put the Claws back up 91-81. With 3:15 to go, the Stars got it back to 5. Roberson buried a big three to make it 104-96. SLC answered with a three, but Lemon answered that with a three of his own. In the final minute, SLC scored 4 quick points, but Dozier hit a dagger three with :29.8 left to put the Claws back up 7. Lemon's free throws down the stretch put it away.

Maine shot 47% (41-87) from the field, 44% (18-41) from three-point range, and 18-23 from the free throw line. Salt Lake shot 46% (41-89) from the floor, 40% (12-30) from downtown and 18-25 from the charity stripe.
