Tejera Signed to Aeros

July 7, 2009 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a roster move today, as the Indians signed LHP Michael Tejera as a minor league free agent and assigned him to Akron. LHP Ryan Edell was transferred to Class A Mahoning Valley's roster to make room for Tejera, but is expected to make his next scheduled start Saturday at Erie.

Tejera, who will make his Akron debut tonight against Reading, began this year with two clubs in the Mexican League, going 5-1 with a 3.57 ERA between Quintana Roo and Monterrey. He has spent parts of five seasons in the Major Leagues, and holds a career record of 11-13 with a 5.14 ERA between Florida and Texas. He spent each of the past three seasons in AAA with Fresno (Giants) in 2006, Indianapolis (Pirates) in 2007 and Pawtucket (Red Sox) in 2008. Tejera was born in Havana, Cuba, and defected as a teenager in 1994 before being drafted in the sixth round of the 1995 June Draft by the Marlins. He will wear #40.
