Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA - The Altoona Curve fell to the Erie SeaWolves 19-2 in the opening game of a three game set at Blair County Ballpark Tuesday night. The loss is the worst in franchise history, surpassing a 19-3 loss to Bowie on 8/1/08.
Big innings played the largest part in the blowout loss as Erie only plated runs in only four innings of play. The SeaWolves jumped out with five runs in the third inning, followed by four in the fifth and four more in the sixth, good for a 13-0 Erie lead.
Altoona then scored their two runs in the sixth and seventh highlighted by third baseman Pedro Alvarez hitting his third Double-A home run of the season and his first home run at Blair County Ballpark.
The âWolves added six more runs in the eighth to finish with 19 runs on 17 hits. Ryan Strieby, Cale Iorg, and Alex Avila all homered for Erie. Jonah Nickerson (6-6) picks up the win tossing 6.1 innings scattering 11 hits and allowing just two runs.
Curve 1B Miles Durham went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double. Jose Tabata, Jason Delaney, and Jim Negrych each had multiple hits for Altoona Tuesday. After allowing only six earned runs in their previous 45.1 innings the Curve bullpen surrendered 11 earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.
Altoona (30-54) will look to rebound Wednesday night against the SeaWolves in game two of three at BCB. Wednesday's probables are LHP Kyle Bloom (1-4, 3.78) for the Curve and RHP Than Weber (1-1, 6.43) for Erie (46-38).
Wednesday night the Curve team up with Waste Management to present Going Green Night at BCB. It will also be another Win-It Wednesday where the first 2,000 fans to the ballpark receive a guaranteed winning scratch off ticket.
Tickets are still available for Wednesday's game. Fans can order tickets by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at altoonacurve.com, or at the Blair County Ballpark Box Office.
