
New Hampshire Slips Past Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- New Hampshire Starting Pitcher Luis Perez tossed six solid innings to lift the Fisher Cats to a 2-1 win over Trenton on Tuesday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton is now 1-3 on its six-game homestand.
Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, the Fisher Cats tallied two runs to take the lead. With one out in the frame, Right fielder Nick Gorneault singled. He advanced to second base on an error by Trenton First baseman Jorge Vazquez. Center fielder Darin Mastroianni followed with an RBI single to plate Gorneault to tie the game at 1-1. Third baseman Bryan Kervin then singled to load the bases. Shortstop Luis Sanchez walked with the bases loaded to bring in the go-ahead run of the Fisher Cats.
Trenton (40-43) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out RBI double by Vazquez. His extra-base hit scored Second baseman Reegie Corona from second base. Corona and Left fielder Noah Hall each had two hits in the loss for Trenton. The Thunder only posted two hits in the game after the third inning. Trenton has a total of two runs and 16 hits in the last three games. The Thunder went 1 x 10 with RISP.
Perez (6-6) won his second straight start, and second start this season against the Thunder. He allowed only five hits and one run in six innings. He struck out five and walked only one. New Hampshire Relievers Leon Boyd and Daniel Farquhar combined to toss three hitless innings to end the game. Farquhar tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fifth save of the season. Trenton Starting Pitcher Kanekoa Texeira (6-5) retired the first 13 batters he faced, but allowed the final five batters he faced to reach base. Texeira allowed three hits and two runs (one earned) in 4 1/3 innings to take the loss. Trenton Relievers Kevin Whelan and Josh Schmidt combined to toss 4 2/3 shutout innings. Trenton's bullpen has only allowed two runs in its last 23 2/3 innings over the course of the last five games.
Trenton continues a three-game series against New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays) on Wednesday night. LHP Wilkin De La Rosa (3-4, 4.13) will start for Trenton against New Hampshire RHP Rey Gonzalez (4-5, 2.95).
