Team Effort Leads to Win Over Rush

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Rapid City Rush 3-1 at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday night. Tim Boron started in goal for the first time since January 6th, and saved 41 of 42 for the win. Jason Tessier broke a 1-1 tie with a power play goal at 3:18 in the third period that gave the Thunder the lead for good.

Stan Yanchishyn opened the night's scoring with a goal at 7:02 in the first period. Rapid City tied the game on a rebound from Blaine Jarvis at 11:07 in the second.

After Tessier's goal, and with the Thunder leading 2-1 late in the third, Boron dove to his left and stopped a loose puck from crossing the goal line with his left arm to keep Wichita in front. Newcomer Mike Zbriger put the game away with his first Thunder goal at 18:21 in the third.

Wichita was a perfect 7 for 7 on the penalty kill. Miguel Beaudry took the loss for the Rush, saving 32 of 35.

The Thunder returns to action Saturday night when they host the Oklahoma City Blazers at 7:05 p.m. at the Coliseum. It is the Thunder's third annual "Pack the House Night".
