Colorado Eagles News Release

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Colorado Eagles defeated the Arizona Sundogs, 5-4, in another classic contest between the two clubs. In a rematch of last season's President's Cup Finals, Morgan Cey (28 saves) and Erik Adams (1-1-2) helped the Eagles to an overtime win in an action-packed, back-and-forth affair -- Colorado's seventh win in a row.

A very entertaining first period erupted in a barrage of scoring with Arizona drawing first blood. A 5-on-3 opportunity gave Sundogs forward Joel Irving the first goal of the game off of assists from Martin Gascon and Chris Bartolone. But Colorado would answer with a power-play marker of their own when Kevin Ulanski fed the puck to Riley Nelson who beat Arizona netminder Marco Emond.

However, the 'Dogs quickly took back the lead when -- just four seconds later -- Adam Perry scored to make it 2-1. The opening period came to a bizarre conclusion when Adam Hogg deflected the puck into Emond's glove, but the goaltender's mit was ruled over the goal line and referee JP Sylvain declared it a goal, tying the game back up at 2.

The second period had both teams in a defensive matchup until 15:34 when Rob Lehtinen fired the puck past Cey to again put the Sundogs up by one. Konrad Reeder returned the favor when Steve Haddon passed him the puck and he charged down the ice before snapping it past Emond for the third tie of the contest. The Sundogs countered quickly again -- this time just 59 seconds later -- when Adams, trying to clear the puck, fell to the ice giving the Sundogs a perfect set-up. AJ MacLean went to the back door of Cey and beat the Eagles netminder to end the period up by one.

Colorado would get their own five-on-three opportunity in the third, and Ryan Tobler stuffed home his own rebound to tie the game at 4. The rest of the period would be a defensive battle with big hits and big saves coming on both sides. No scoring would ensue after that and the game would go into extra minutes.

After spending the previous minute in the penalty box, Adams again went from zero to hero by converting a beautiful give-and-go with Tom Reimann to secure the win for Colorado 2:21 into the overtime period.

The Eagles will take on the Sundogs again tomorrow night at Tim's Toyota Center before heading back to the Budweiser Event Center on Wednesday, January 28 to face the Amarillo Gorillas.
