
RiverKings Power Past Killer Bees 4-3

(Southaven, MS) - The Mississippi RiverKings used four power play goals and a season high 54 shot on goals in posting a 4-3 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven. The 54 shots on net equaled the most shots on goal taken by the RiverKings in a game this season.
With the victory, Mississippi moved into a tie for second place with Bossier-Shreveport in the Northeast Division of the Central Hockey League, two points away from front-running Oklahoma City. The RiverKings have a 24-13-1 record after the victory.
Rio Grande Valley opened the scoring on the power play at 3:36 of the first period, as Brian Bicek scored with Dallas Steward in the penalty box.
But, the RiverKings answered with three straight power play goals, two of which came in the space of 27 seconds. Bobby Chaumont scored first at 8:04 to tie the game at 1-1, followed 27 seconds later with Andrew Lackner scoring a power play goal at 8:31 for a 2-1 lead.
Garrett Larson added another power play goal at 15:48 for a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. The RiverKings a league season high of 28 shots in the first period, while Rio Grande Valley goaltender Christian Boucher stopped a league season high 25 shots in the initial period of play.
In the second period, Mississippi took a 4-1 lead on a power play goal from Jeff Nelson, but Rio Grande Valley closed the margin to 4-2 after two on a goal scored by Darryl Moore.
In the third period, Rio Grande Valley scored twice on goals from Darryl Moore and Grant Goeckner-Zeller, but could get no closer, as the RiverKings broke a two-game winless streak.
Mississippi was 4-for-14 on the power play, while Rio Grande Valley was 2-for-7 with the man advantage. Kevin Beech won his 19th game of the season (19-9-1) with a 23-save effort, while Christian Boucher took the loss with a 50-save performance for Rio Grande Valley.
