Sacramento River Cats News Release

RENO, Nev. - Mike Taylor had three hits and drove in five runs Friday night, spoiling the Reno Aces' home opener and lifting Sacramento to its second-straight win, a 16-8 victory at Aces Ballpark.

The Cats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, and exploded for 14 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to stretch their lead to 16-4. They would coast to victory in their first road test of the young season.

Michael Taylor (3-for-5, five RBIs) and Shane Peterson (3-for-4, four runs scored) were just two of five River Cats hitters to pound out at least two hits on the evening. Taylor, Grant Green and Stephen Vogt all homered for Sacramento, which won its second-straight game for the first time this season.

Travis Banwart (1-0) picked up the win in relief, after starter Justin Thomas and Pedro Figueroa combined to toss the first 5.2 innings. Banwart struck out two in 2.1 innings, and James Simmons preserved the win with a perfect ninth.

The loss fell to Aces starter Charles Brewer (0-1), who allowed seven runs-six earned-in 3.1 innings of work.

Jemile Weeks chipped in with a pair of singles, extending his season-opening hitting streak to nine games. Vogt added a triple to go along with his home run for his fourth multi-hit effort in five games with Sacramento.

The River Cats look for their third-straight win Saturday night at Aces Ballpark, when they send RHP Sonny Gray (0-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound against Reno lefty Tyler Skaggs (1-0, 0.00 ERA). The River Cats return home on April 20 for an eight-game homestand against the Reno Aces and Salt Lake Bees.
