Rainiers Home Opener Suspended Due to Rain

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers home opener on Friday, April 12th against the Salt Lake Bees was suspended due to rain. The game will resume at 5 p.m. tomorrow, April 13th and will be followed by another seven inning game played 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.

Tickets for Friday's suspended game may be exchanged for a future Rainiers game this season. All exchanged tickets will be redeemed for tickets of equal or lesser value and exclude the club's game on July 3rd. Tickets for tomorrow's game are good for both the conclusion of Friday's game played on the seven inning game that will follow.

Friday's game was suspended with the Rainiers trailing 5-0 with two outs in the top of the fifth inning and left-handed reliever Lucas Luetge on the mound for Tacoma. Salt Lake had base runners on first and second base.

Tacoma allowed all five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Third baseman Roberto Lopez singled with the bases loaded to drive in a pair of runs and Scott Cousins added two more with a single one at-bat later. Michael Young upped the Bees lead to five runs with another two-RBI single.

Rainiers starter James Paxton surrendered all five runs and is accountable for the runner left on second base when the game was suspended. The left-handed allowed four hits, struck out six and walked three over 4.2 innings.

The starter for the Rainiers in the second game on Saturday has yet to be announced after scheduled starter D.J. Mitchell was designated for assignment on Thursday. Right-hander Matt Shoemaker (0-1, 4.50) is scheduled to start for Bees.
