Bridgeport Islanders News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Nov. 16, 2012) - Penguins forward Eric Tangradi scored three power play goals and Jeff Zatkoff made 19 saves as Wilkes-Barre defeated the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 3-1 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza on Friday night. With the win, the Penguins improve to 8-6-0-0. The Sound Tigers fall to 8-4-0-0.

Special teams told the story of the opening period, as the two sides combined for three power play goals in the first 20 minutes of action. Travis Hamonic was sent off for cross-checking in the opening minute of play, and Tangradi deflected Trevor Smith's centering feed past Kevin Poulin to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead 1:32 into the game.

The Sound Tigers responded with a power play goal of their own midway through the period. Nino Niederreiter received the puck to the right of Penguins goaltender Jeff Zatkoff and quickly fired a pass through the top of the crease to Johan Sundstrom. The rookie center one-timed the puck into the open net for his third goal of the season, and the game was tied 1-1 at the 7:50 mark of the first period.

Tangradi netted his second power play goal with 4:53 left in the opening frame, knocking a rebound past Poulin to put the Penguins back in front by a 2-1 score.

Stellar play from Poulin held the Sound Tigers within a goal until Tangradi struck once more on the power play. The Penguins forward camped in front of Poulin and deflected a point shot past the Sound Tigers net-minder for his third power play goal of the game, increasing the Penguins lead to 3-1 midway through the period.

The Sound Tigers dictated play in the final period, possessing the puck for extended stretches in the Penguins zone. However, Zatkoff stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period, and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton came away with the two-goal victory.

The Sound Tigers continue their weekend tomorrow evening when they play host to the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. Tomorrow is Pink Rink Night, sponsored by Norwalk Hospital at Webster Bank Arena. All fans wearing pink tomorrow's game will be invited onto the ice during intermission for a ribbon-forming ceremony, and all proceeds from tomorrow's silent auction will benefit the Smilow Family Breast Health Center at Norwalk Hospital.
