
IceHogs Slip by Houston Aeros 2-1

Rockford, IL - The Houston Aeros (6-6-1-2, 15 points) were defeated by the Rockford IceHogs (6-7-0-1, 13 points) 2-1 on Friday in front of 4,953 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Rockford's Kyle Beach and Ben Smith scored four minutes apart early in the second period and the IceHogs held on to win the first meeting of the season between the two clubs. Rockford goalie Carter Hutton (5-6-1) stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory. Aeros right wing Nick Palmieri scored the team's lone goal, as Houston fell to 4-3-0-0 on the road this season. Houston goalie Matt Hackett (3-5-2) stopped 22 of 24 in the one-goal defeat. Houston will host the IceHogs on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. in St. Paul at the Xcel Energy Center.
After a scoreless first period, Rockford opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the middle frame. Defenseman Ryan Stanton blasted a shot wide in the Aeros zone. The puck banked off the end boards and out towards the Houston net. Right wing Kyle Beach picked up the rebound and shuffled it past Matt Hackett for his fifth goal of the season. Marcus Kruger added an assist as Rockford moved in front 1-0. The IceHogs made it 2-0 at 5:08 of the second period, as Ben Smith found the back of the net. Brandon Pirri and Jeremy Morin each had an assist on Smith's fourth goal of the year.
Just 3:38 into the third period, right wing Nick Palmieri ripped a one-timer past Carter Hutton, putting Houston on the board and trimming the deficit to 2-1. Left wing Kris Foucault and defenseman Tyler Cuma each had an assist on the power-play goal, Palmieri's fifth tally of the season.
The Aeros will host the Rockford IceHogs at the Xcel Energy Center, home of the NHL's Minnesota Wild, on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 5:05 p.m. Prior to returning to home ice, the Aeros will play in San Antonio on Friday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. Houston will host the Abbotsford Heat on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 5:05 p.m. This season every Sunday is a Family Day, where families can purchase a package with parking, four tickets and four Aeros gifts, starting at $54.
