Peoria Rivermen News Release
Phil McRae's second goal of the night, and third in his last two games, won the game in overtime for the Peoria Rivermen over the Chicago Wolves on Friday night at Carver Arena. Jake Allen made 35 saves to earn the victory as the Rivermen have now won back-to-back games after beating Rockford on Wednesday.
The Rivermen (4-7-2-1) and the Wolves (7-4-2-0) will face off again on Saturday at Allstate Arena.
Peoria took an early lead at 3:39 of the first period with a goal from Evgeny Grachev. Brett Sonne won a faceoff back to Cundari who took a shot from the blueline that Grachev tipped over the Chicago's goalie Eddie Lack's left shoulder for Grachev's second goal of the season.
In the second period, McRae capitalized on a Rivermen power play to increase Peoria's lead to 2-0. Brent Regner's shot from the point was blocked in the high slot. McRae quickly got to the puck and snapped it past Lack's blocker.
Two goals in 25 seconds, at 6:49 and 7:04 of the third period, tied the game for Chicago. The first goal was credited to Guillaume Desbiens with an assist from Andrew Gordon. Steve Pinizzotto emerged with the second goal by deflecting Kevin Connauton shot out of the air and into the net.
With just 25.8 seconds left in overtime, McRae struck again. Ian Cole's pass was out of his reach and McRae raced after it, turned around the bottom of the circle and cut through the crease to end the game.
Chicago outshot Peoria 37-30 and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Peoria went 1-for-3 on the man advantage.
The Rivermen hit to road on Saturday to face the Wolves in Chicago. All games can be heard on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
