Kansas City Monarchs News Release
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones pounded four home runs and equaled their season-high in hits with 17 in an 11-2 win over the Grand Prairie AirHogs on Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Kyle Nichols followed up Monday night's grand slam with two more home runs in the first and sixth innings against AirHogs' starter Josh Strawn (6-4), who entered the game fourth in the league in ERA with 2.89. Nichols now has four homers since joining the club on July 4.
Devin Goodwin and Matt Padgett also added home runs in the second and sixth innings, respectively. Padgett continues to lead the team with 16, and Goodwin made it to double digits with his 10th.
Lucas Irvine (3-4) gave up only two runs (one earned) and struck out five in six innings of work. His ERA of 2.92 is the best of any T-Bones starter and ranks top-10 in the league.
"Luke set the tone early on the mound," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "Even though we made some mistakes defensively, he worked around them. Then, our offense hit the ball really well with a disciplined approach, for the most part."
With tonight's collection of hits, the T-Bones have had 29 batters reach on a hit in the last two games - the highest hit total in consecutive games for the team this season.
The T-Bones (21-36) go for their first sweep of 2013 against the AirHogs (29-25) at 7:05 Wednesday night. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
