
Saltdogs Pound Bullpen to Defeat RailCats 13-2

Gary, IN - The Saltdogs scored 11 runs over their final three at-bats to defeat the RailCats 13-2 on Tuesday. Lincoln improves to 31-26; the RailCats fall to 34-22.
Lincoln grabbed a first inning run against starter Ari Ronick. With runners on first and second with two out, Jon Gaston pulled a base hit past the Christian Vitters to score Mike Coles and make it 1-0.
The Saltdogs added to the lead in the fourth with a sac fly by Tyler Goodro. The run went unearned thanks to an error by Danny Pulfer.
In the fifth, the RailCats scored an unearned run of their own with an RBI single by Adam Klein. Klein drove in Zac Mitchell who reached on a three-base error by pitcher Mike Burns.
Craig Maddox tied the game in the sixth with a solo homerun to right. It was his fourth of the season and just the tenth of the season for the RailCats in 56 games.
Lincoln wasted no time taking the lead back, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. David Espinosa led off the inning with a single and Curt Smith followed him with an RBI triple to center. Ari Ronick then walked Jon Gaston on five pitches to end his start.
Ronick allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits, a pair of walks and struck out five.
Taylor Sewitt relieved him and allowed a sacrifice fly to Matt Forgatch to give Lincoln a 4-2 lead after six innings.
With Josh Biggs on the mound in the seventh, the Saltdogs added more to their run total. With a runner on second and two out, Biggs allowed an RBI single to Stephen Douglas then a two-run homer to David Espinosa to make it 7-2 Lincoln.
In the eighth, Biggs returned to the mound and surrendered six runs on four hits in the inning. Biggs walked in a run, hit a batter to score a run, and allowed two-run hits to David Espinosa and Curt Smith as the Saltdogs put the game away.
Espinosa and Smith combined for five hits and seven driven in as every Saltdog except for Brian Wuest drove in a run in the game.
The RailCats complete their three-game series in Lincoln Tuesday night. RHP Billy Spottiswood (2-1 5.40 ERA) will take the ball for the RailCats, LHP Moises Melendez (2-2, 5.14 ERA) The radio broadcast for the RailCats and Saltdogs will begin at 7:00 p.m. on 89.1 FM the Lakeshore and RailCatsbaseball.com
