Kansas City Monarchs News Release

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signing of Christian Kowalchuk, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed pitcher from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Kowalchuk pitched collegiately at Seward County (Kan.) Community College before finishing his last two seasons at the University of Arkansas. Coming out of the bullpen for Arkansas, Kowalchuk helped lead the Razorbacks to the 2009 College World Series, while posting the third-lowest ERA on the team at 3.57. As a senior, Kowalchuk posted a team-low 2.11 ERA.

Also, the T-Bones have activated infielder Kala Ka'aihue from the 7-day disabled list. Before going on the DL, Ka'aihue had played in three games this season for Kansas City, batting .333 with two home runs, five runs batted in and scored five runs.

To make room for Kowalchuk and Ka'aihue, the T-Bones placed pitcher Greg Denton on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting him his unconditional release. And, before this current road trip, the club announced that infielder Lee Cruz had signed to play with Yucatan in the Mexican League.

With these moves, Kansas City's roster is at 22 players as the club begins a three-game series Monday night at El Paso.
