KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the acquisition of infielder Enrique Cruz from the El Paso Diablos in exchange for Reid Fronk and Nick Singleton.

Cruz, 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds, batted .274 with five RBIs and 12 runs for the Diablos. He also has one home run, which, coincidentally, he hit on Wednesday afternoon against the T-Bones to center field at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

"First off, Cruz is a good defensive third baseman, so this move solidifies our infield, which is something we've wanted to do," said manager Kenny Hook. "Second, he's a solid hitter, a guy who can hit around .300 in this league. And, he gives us a third player (along with Ray Sadler and Brandon Jones) with Major League experience."

The New York Mets signed Cruz, a native of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, as an amateur free agent in 1998. After spending time in the minor leagues for the Mets, the Milwaukee Brewers selected Cruz in the 2002 Rule 5 Draft. He played in 60 games at the Major League level for the Brewers in 2003. Then, in 2007, he played one game in the majors for Cincinnati. He's also been in the minor league systems for Texas and Atlanta.

Cruz, who played 19 games earlier this season with fellow American Association club Fargo-Moorhead before joining El Paso, is scheduled to arrive in Kansas City on Sunday night.

In addition to the trade for Cruz, the T-Bones re-signed pitcher Matt Foust, who prepped at Blue Valley West High School in the Kansas City area and then played collegiately at the University of Nebraska. Foust appeared in one game earlier this month for the T-Bones.
