Massaro Hits Record Three Triples in RailCats Loss

Gary, IND - Mike Massaro set a franchise record and tied an American Association record with three triples in the RailCats 6-5 loss to Lincoln on Sunday in the series rubber match. The loss moves Gary to 15-20 on the season.

Stephen Holdren hit a sac fly in the first to give the Saltdogs a 1-0 lead against RailCats starter Morgan Coombs (2-3). In the second, Joe Spiers hit an RBI single and another run scored on a groundout to make it 3-0.

Sean Henry and Brian Kolb each doubled for the RailCats in the bottom of the second, as Henry scored on Kolb's double to cut the deficit to 3-1. In the third, Massaro hit his second triple of the game to score Adam Klein. Mike Coles followed with an RBI groundout to tie the game at three.

Lincoln did some two-out damage in the fourth to take the lead back. Spiers homered to left and Stephen Holdren and Jimmy Rohan added back-to-back RBI singles to make it 6-3.

Massaro led off the fifth inning with his third triple in three at-bats and scored on Mike Rohde's groundout to trim the lead to 6-4. The RailCats got it to 6-5 in the seventh inning. Rohde was hit by a pitch, stole second base, and then scored on Kyle Haines' single.

The 'Cats threatened in the eighth against Brandon Cooney. Cooney walked the bases loaded, including an intentional walk to Massaro, and then induced an inning-ending double play against Mike Coles. Coles' 0-for-5 game snapped his 18 game on-base streak.

The homestand continues with a four-game series against Kansas City on Monday at 7:10 PM. Kyle Wilson will take the hill on Dollar Monday. Fans can buy one ticket and get the second one for $1. There will also be $1 hot dogs, popcorn, soda and chips at the concession stand.
