Diablos Salvage Series Behind Strong Start From Hodsdon
June 24, 2012 - American Association (AA)
El Paso Diablos News Release
EL PASO, TX- Scott Hodsdon (2-1) pitched five and a third solid innings and the Diablos bullpen held the opposition scoreless for the second consecutive night as El Paso earned a 6-3 victory over the Laredo Lemurs in front of 3,000-plus at Cohen Stadium.
Hodsdon endured only one shaky inning, a three-run third for the Lemurs, and held Laredo to just seven hits while striking out four and walking one. Outside of that third, the right-hander allowed only three hits and turned over a 5-3 lead to a suddenly stout relief corps.
The Diablos jumped on the Lemurs for thee early runs, taking the lead on Nelson Teilon's RBI single in the first inning and then extending the advantage on Jordan Marks' sac fly and Maikol Gonzalez's run-scoring single in the second.
The Lemurs rallied to tie the game in the third, with John Allen's RBI double knotting the score at three. But while Hodsdon limited the damage and recovered, Lemurs starter Todd Privett faltered again in the fifth. Patrick Arlis singled in Nelson Teilon to retake the lead, and Scott Clement's hit made it 5-3 El Paso.
The Diablos would add the final run of the game in the sixth when Marks scored on a double play grounder. Once Hodsdon exited in the sixth, Ronny Morla, Kyle Cremers and Marcel Prado extinguished any further fires with three and two thirds innings of scoreless relief. None of the three hurlers allowed a hit, and Prado's perfect ninth was the right-hander's third save of 2012.
The Diablos now head out on the road to take on the Sioux Fallas Pheasants and Sioux City Explorers. Diablos fans can catch those games on Fox Sports Radio 1380 in El Paso. First pitch on Tuesday in the opener against Sioux Falls is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. (MST).
