El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX- The Laredo Lemurs continued their strangehold over El Paso on Saturday evening at Cohen Stadium, winning for the seventh time in eight games against the Diablos by a final of 7-3 in front of 3,500-plus fans.

For the second straight game, the Lemurs jumped on the Diablos starter. This time, it was Edgar Garcia, who was making his El Paso debut. Garcia llowed two first inning runs, the second coming on a wild pitch, and ended up lasting just three and a third innings. He joined Juan Peralta, Friday's starter, in failing to make it through four innings against Laredo.

Down 3-0 after two and a half innings, El Paso made a charge in the third. Designated hitter Scott Hodsdon, making his first start as a hitter in 2012, singled with one out and scored on Maikol Gonzalez's RBI triple down the left field line. Gonzalez himself scored on Uriak Marquez's sacrifice fly to bring the Diablos to within one run.

That was as close as El Paso would get, as Garcia surrendered three more earned runs before exiting in the fourth. By the time the inning ended with recent acquisition Drew Graham on the hill, the Lemurs had batted around and led 7-2.

The Diablos bullpen continued to show significant improvement from their shaky performance through the first 30-plus games of the season. Graham, Ronny Morla, Kyle Cremers, Tim Adleman and Marcel Prado combined to shut Laredo out over the final five innings while the offense attempted to come back against Laredo starter Chris Chavez.

Chavez (4-4), however, limited any damage against him and earned the win with seven strong innings. The right-hander only struck out three, but also allowed just eight hits while his offense produced 16 for the second consecutive night. The Diablos lone run after the third off Chavez came when Maikol Gonzalez singled in Patrick Arlis in the seventh for his second RBI of the night.

Chaz Roe pitched two scoreless innings for the Lemurs to close out El Paso and move Laredo to 16-18.

The Diablos, meanwhile, fell to 7-26 and will try to win Sunday to avoid being swept by Laredo for the second time this year. Reymond Cruz is scheduled to start for the Diablos, with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. (MST).
