Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City-----Jason Jarvis scattered seven hits in shuting out Wichita 5-0 here at Lewis and Clark Park Sunday evening. It was the second straight complete game shutout by Jarvis as the righthander has now thrown 19 consecutive shutout innings. His first complete game shutout came on Tuesday at Fargo.
Sunday, Jarvis threw 110 pitches, struck out one and walked three. The only trouble for Jarvis was the first three innings when Wichita had runners at third base in the first and second base in the second and third. After that Jarvis was in full control.
The Explorers gave Jarvis a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning when Wichita relief pitcher Nick Schreiber uncorked three wild pitches that allowed two runs to score and the third run came on an infield single RBI by Brandon Newton. The Explorers put the icing on the cake in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Youske Inoguchi, his third hit of the game and a RBI single by Ray Serrano.
With the victory, Jarvis now is 4-3 on the season and the Explorers snapped a four-game slide. It also snapped an eight game winning streak by Wichita.
The Explorers will now travel to Winnipeg to begin a three-game series against the Goldeyes on Monday. After an off day Thursday, the first off day for the Explorers in nearly a month, the X's will return home Friday for a weekend series against El Paso at Lewis and Clark Park through Sunday.
