Switchbacks Kick off Season Saturday
March 26, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, Colo. (Thursday, March 26, 2015) - "Join the Climb" as the Switchbacks FC get ready to play in their first-ever match to start the 2015 regular season.
The Switchbacks will take on the Aztex in Austin, Texas this Saturday at 7 p.m.
"It's been almost two years since Ed (Martin Ragain, Owner) approached me with the idea of bringing a new pro soccer sports franchise to Colorado. We are finally ready to go and are excited to have the City of Colorado Springs getting behind this USL football movement," said Nick Ragain, Switchbacks FC President.
"We as a staff and the players are ready for the season to begin," said Switchbacks Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "We have had a very good six weeks of preseason and the team is prepared to be competitive and determined to be a hard team to play against."
This first game will be a true test for both teams, as both are new to the professional division of the USL this season. The Switchbacks FC was started from the ground up a little more than a year ago. It's a journey that is elevating soccer, energizing the community, and charting a new course for professional sports in Colorado Springs.
The Aztex were founded in 2011 as part of the PDL (Professional Development League) in the USL. In fact, the Aztex won the USL PDL Championship in 2013 and were Mid-South Division Champions in 2014.
The match up on Saturday night will be a great opportunity for the Switchbacks to show they are the team to beat this season!
"We look forward to seeing the Switchbacks fans fill up Sand Creek Stadium on April 4th and give us great support all season long," said Trittschuh.
