
Outdoor, Pro Soccer Returns to Tulsa with the Oklahoma Derby

Outdoor, professional soccer officially returns to the city of Tulsa Saturday evening when Tulsa Roughnecks FC plays its first-ever regular season match at ONEOK Field. The Roughnecks, under Head Coach David Irving, will open their 2015 schedule by hosting the Oklahoma City Energy in the Oklahoma derby.
Kickoff in downtown Tulsa is slated for 7:00PM. The opener will by highlighted by a large Fireworks display following the match presented by ONEOK, 2 News Works for You and 106.9 K-Hits. In addition, the first 3,000 fans into the stadium will receive a 2015 Schedule Magnet with a removable team crest, compliments of Mazzio's.
The match marks the return of outdoor, professional soccer to Tulsa. The original Roughnecks last played an exhibition schedule in 1985. The new Roughnecks inaugural season is being presented by Hillcrest HealthCare System.
The Roughnecks will play a 28-game regular season schedule in USL with 14 games at ONEOK Field.
The meeting with the Energy will mark the first of four this season between the state rivals. The Roughnecks are an expansion franchise, while Oklahoma City opened play last year with a 9-5-14 record (W-D-L). The Energy are coached by former Sporting KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen.
The Roughnecks finished with a 4-0-2 mark during a six-match preseason schedule.
Pre-game activities are slated to begin at 4:00PM with the Roughnecks Rally at Guthrie Green. There will be food and drinks available as well as activities for fans of all ages. The Roustabouts, the team's official supporters group, will also be teaching fans specialized chants. As is tradition in many cities, the Roustabouts will then lead a March to the Match at 6:00PM as all fans are encouraged to march as one into ONEOK Field. The rally and march will take place prior to every Roughnecks game this season.
Tickets for the opening match, and all other matches this season, are available online at TulsaRoughnecksFC.com, over the telephone at (918)744-5901 or in person at the ONEOK Field Ticket Office. A number of season ticket packages are also still available.
NOTES: Gates at ONEOK Field for the inaugural match will open at 6:00PM. . . .The game will mark the beginning of four straight home matches to open the season for the Roughnecks. Tulsa will host Saint Louis FC on April 2, the Austin Aztex on April 4 and the Seattle Sounders 2 on April 16. . . .Saturday's opener will mark the first time that the Roughnecks will wear their official Modelo home kits. The uniforms will feature orange jerseys, orange shorts, and white socks.
