FC Blues Add Two Young Internationals
March 26, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. (March 26, 2015) - Orange County Blues FC Head Coach Oliver Wyss and Blues acting President and General Manager Tom Payne have announced the signing of winger Denzel Slager and midfielder Luka Petricevic. Both players are expected to be valuable additions to the squad.
Denzel Slager is a 21-year-old who will add value to the Blues frontline due to his speed, skill and experience. The Dutchmen started his career with his hometown team, FC Utrecht in 2011. He moved to RKC Waalwijk, which was then in Eredivisie, in 2012 where he made 15 appearances for the Dutch first division team. Slager also played in 20 matches and notched 16 goals with the RKC Waalwijk U21 team. In 2014, the striker signed with English side Coventry City where he appeared three times, including the FA Cup, before eventually coming to Orange County. Slager has also played with Dutch top league teams AZ Alkmaar and SC Heerenveen.
"I am excited to be here and I have a lot to bring to the team," Slager commented. "We have a good squad and I believe that we have the potential to be great this year."
Luka Petricevic is another young player with great potential. The 22-year-old midfielder began his youth career with Montenegrin team FK Buduænost Podgorica in 2003 and at the age of 12 was the youngest player to sign a contract in his home country. In 2009, Petricevic went on to play with FC OFK Beogard, one of Serbia's top youth soccer systems. In 2010 he joined POAK FC from the Greek Superleague and after two years was loaned out to FC Agrotikos Asteras where he made 18 appearances. Petricevic then moved to Serbian SuperLiga when he signed with FK Jagodina and helped the team win the Serbian Cup in 2013. He went on loan to Montenegrin First League side FK Mogren in 2014. Petricevic also made appearances for Serbia & Montenegro national teams at the U13 and U15 age groups, as well as the Montenegro national team at U17 and U19.
"I'm looking forward to being part of the OC Blues and contributing to the team's ambitions for a championship," commented Petricevic. "After 6 years of playing professionally in Europe, I find the USL to be a great place to introduce myself to the American football public."
The Blues open the 2015 season on Saturday, March 28th vs Arizona United SC. Kickoff is 7:00PM from UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium.
