Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts string of late inning wins came to halt Tuesday along with a five game winning streak as the Swing of the Quad Cities toppled Lansing 4-2. The Swing scored all of its runs in the top of the ninth.
Aaron Tressler had the Lugnuts in position to take their sixth straight after twirling eight beautiful innings of one hit baseball. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before Casey Rowlett broke up the bid with a double down the left field line.
The Swing were able to take advantage of Tressler's absence in the ninth while trailing 1-0. Daniel Nelson and Rowlett each smacked singles with one out. After Jon Jay committed the second out of the frame, Mark Hamilton ripped a single into center field to plate Nelson to tie the game at 1-1. Bryan Anderson's single scored Rowlett to give the Swing a 2-1 lead. Tyler Greene reached on a throwing error by Lansing's Jason Armstrong, and David Hicks threw the ball away while trying to catch Hamilton coming home. He and Anderson each scored to make it 4-1.
The Lugnuts took the 1-0 lead in the seventh on a Zack Kalter single to center field that plated Hicks.
The Swing received a good start from Trey Hearne, who went 6 1/3 innings allowing just one unearned run on eight hits.
Chris Perez (2-0) got the win for the Swing, throwing the final two innings of the game.
Ted Serro (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing all four runs in the ninth. Only two of the runs were earned.
Lansing (56-50, 16-23) and the Swing (56-50, 22-16) will play the second game of the series on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. Chi-Hung Cheng (8-5, 4.01) will take the mound for Lansing, while Tyler Norrick (1-1, 4.46) will hurl for the Swing. Wednesday is also Summer Fun Day at Oldsmobile Park.
