Asheville Tourists News Release
Greenville, SC--The Asheville Tourists swept a three-game series over the Greenville Drive with a 3-1 victory at Fluor Field on Thursday night. Asheville has won their last eight road games and six straight contests against the Greenville. The Tourists are 7-0 on the road since the All-Star Break while the Drive has now lost ten straight.
Johendi Jiminian had a great bounce back performance on the mound for Asheville after his previous two starts were suspect. Jiminian tossed 5.1 innings, allowed just three hits, and worked around three Tourists errors to surrender just one run.
Offensively, Michael Benjamin has his hand in all three of Asheville's runs. Benjamin walked to lead off the second inning, stole second base, went to third on a groundout, and scored on Ashley Graeter's sacrifice fly to shallow centerfield.
With the game tied up 1-1, Benjamin came through in the sixth. Fred Ocasio put a suicide squeeze on with Raimel Tapia at third base and one out. The pitch was too high for Benjamin to bunt and it appeared as if Tapia was caught in a rundown. Somehow he made it back to third base safely and on the next pitch Benjamin singled him home.
In the eighth, Benjamin delivered with an RBI groundout to score Zach Osborne for a crucial insurance run. The Tourists third-baseman finished 2-for-3 with a double, run, walk, two RBI, and two stolen bases. Tapia also contributed a pair of doubles in the win.
Troy Neiman relieved Jiminian and worked 2.2 scoreless innings before giving the ball to Trent Daniel to work the ninth. Daniel allowed a two-out double to Kevin Mager, but induced a game ending groundout off the bat of Aneudis Peralta to clinch the sweep.
Asheville now heads home to open a six-game homestand with Friday's night's sold out contest against the Lexington Legends. The first pitch is at 7:05pm.
