Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Despite receiving an outstanding effort on the mound from Daniel McGrath, the Greenville Drive (3-12, 37-47) saw their losing streak extended to 10 games after the Asheville Tourists (11-4, 52-32) finished a series sweep with a 3-1 victory.
McGrath (3-4) ended up as the tough-luck loser despite hurling seven terrific innings. He allowed two runs, six hits and one walk while striking out a pair.
Asheville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Michael Benjamin drew a leadoff walk, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and came in on an Ashley Graeter sacrifice fly.
The Drive answered back in the bottom of the third to tie the game. Aneudis Peralta blooped a double into right field, and after an error moved him to third, Forrestt Allday brought him home with a sacrifice fly of his own.
Benjamin continued to be in the middle of the action for the Tourists, as his RBI single in the sixth scored Raimel Tapia, who hit a leadoff double, to give Asheville the lead. He added an RBI groundout in the eighth against Mike Adams and finished the night 2-3 with a pair of RBI.
Johendi Jiminian (9-4) worked five and a third innings and allowed only three hits and one to earn the victory. Troy Neiman and Trent Daniel finished things off with three and two-third scoreless frames of relief, with Daniel recording his eighth save.
Tapia joined Benjamin with a two-hit night for Asheville, while Peralta was the lone Drive player to collect two hits.
The Drive begin a six-game road trip on Friday, with a three-game series against the Augusta GreenJackets first on the docket. Friday's game begins at 7:00. RH Jamie Callahan (2-7, 6.59 ERA) takes the ball for the Drive, while the GreenJackets will send LH Luis Ysla (5-5, 2.09 ERA) to the mound.
