
Sweeney Shines in Otters' Doubleheader Split

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - The Evansville Otters (23-16) split a doubleheader at home against the Frontier Greys on Wednesday night.
Outfielder Chris Sweeney had a home run and four runs batted in on the night as the Otters won the first game 5-4 and lost the final game 2-1.
The Otters leapt ahead early in game one with a second inning solo home run from Sweeney.
Evansville then fell behind when the Frontier Greys rallied to score four runs in the fourth against Evansville pitcher Chad James. Outfielder Jon Minucci and catcher RamonOrtega both hit RBI singles to turn a deficit into a 4-1 edge.
Sweeney struck again in the fifth with a two-run double to pull Evansville within one.
Down 4-3 in the seventh and final scheduled inning, Evansville tied the game on a wild pitch and won the game on a walk-off RBI single from Jeremy Nowak to deep center field. It was his third hit of the game and set Evansville up for a possible sweep in game two of the doubleheader.
The Otters also took the lead in game two when Sweeney hit an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Pitcher Preston Olson (3-3) maintained the 1-0 advantage until the sixth when outfielder Cameron Monger hit a one-out single and scored on a Jon Dziomba RBI game-tying triple to right-center. First baseman Joe Rapp then hit a go-ahead sac fly to right field.
Greys pitcher Keith Picht (1-4) threw a complete game for the win, allowing one run on four hits.
The final game of the series will take place on Thursday, July 3. It is Edward Jones night with a postgame fireworks extravaganza. Fans can also enjoy Budweiser Thirsty Thursday at Bosse Field with 16 ounce drafts for $2 and 32 ounce drafts for $4. The Otters will have USI alum, righthander Taylor Dennis (0-0, 8.38 ERA) on the mound. The Greys have yet to announce a starter. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm CDT.
