Rascals Sweep Season Series Against Beach Bums

As River City went for the sweep in game three against the Traverse City Beach Bums, Brook sent rookie Ethan Carter to the mound to try and seal the deal. In the top of the first, River City was not be able to push across an early run as they stranded Aanderud on first with one-out. As Carter took the hill in the bottom of the inning, he once again asserted his dominance over these Beach Bums hitters by setting them down in order on three consecutive strikeouts.

River City then used the momentum from Carter's strikeouts to score three on consecutive RBI-singles by Evan Crawford and Hector Crespo, followed by a squeeze-bunt off the bat of Eric Williams. Carter then retook the mound in the bottom of the inning with a three-run lead at Weurfel Park. The Beach Bums answered back in the bottom of the inning by scoring one on a one-out, solo-shot by designated hitter Jovan Rosa-making the score 3-1River City heading into inning number three.

After a scoreless top of the third, Traverse City came out swinging to tie the game at three apiece on a one-out, two-run double off the bat of first-baseman Yazy Arbelo. The Rascals' bats would then fail to answer the two runs, as Tripp set the batters down one-two-three in the top of the fourth. Carter followed the scoreless top of the fourth with a scoreless bottom of the inning, to send the game still tied at three into the fifth at Weurfel Park.

The Raskies then finally retook the lead in the top of the fifth on an RBI double by none other than the Frontier League's leading power hitter Josh Ludy. With the score 4-3 River City heading into the bottom of the fifth, Carter retired the first batter before an infield-single led to his removal after 4.1 innings, allowing four-earned runs on six hits while striking out three-the fourth run, however, came home after he departed from the game. Tommy Organ would come out of the pen in relief of Carter and allow the inherited runner to score but no one further as he struck out two of three batters faced to end the inning with the game tied at four.

Brook and the Rascals would once again find themselves in the lead heading into the bottom of the sixth after an RBI-triple by Hector Crespo and an RBI-groundout by Eric Williams netted two runs to put them up 6-4. Shafer would then enter out of the bullpen and throw a scoreless inning to maintain River City's two-run lead heading into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Beach Bums inched closer on a solo-shot homerun by Greg Harisis off of reliever Kyle Brady-making the score 6-5 River City heading into the eighth at Weurfel Park in Traverse City, Michigan.

The score would remain the same heading into the ninth, as River City led 6-5, standing only three outs away from a second series sweep of Traverse City. The Rascals however, wouldn't be content with their one-run lead, as in the top of the ninth, Saxon Butler drove in an insurance run with a two-out RBI double to make the score 7-5 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

Gabriel Shaw then came in to retire the first two batters of the inning before Jeff DeBlieux came up to blast a two-out bomb to rightfield to make it a one-run game. Fortunately, Shaw was able to come back and strikeout Arbelo to end the game and give River City a 6-0 season sweep of the Traverse City Beach Bums. The win went to Tommy Organ with the loss going to Scott Vachon.
