Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Marion, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners lost to the Washington Wild Things 7-1 at CONSOL Energy Park in Washington on Thursday night, and were swept in the three-game series against the Wild Things.

The Miners were held down all game by Shawn Blackwell, who ended up with a complete game win, until the ninth inning when the Miners plated their only run of the contest on a leadoff triple by Chris Burke and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Cavan.

But the damage was already done, as Washington took the lead immediately at 2-0 in the first on a two-run double by C.J. Beatty and tacked on three more in the fifth and two additional runs in the seventh, compiling 15 hits against the Miners' pitching staff in the loss, the Miners' fourth in a row.

Matt Crim will pitch on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. when the Miners host the Rockford Aviators at Rent One Park to begin a six-game homestand, as Southern Illinois looks to get back on the winning track.
