LAST TIME OUT: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders beat the Durham Bulls 6-3 on Sunday at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Mike King earned his first career Triple-A win and the RailRiders earned a split of their six-game road trip.

The RailRiders opened the scoring in with three home runs in the second. With Mike Ford on, Mark Payton homered to left-center. After a Gio Urshela double, Zack Zehner drove the first pitch of his at-bat over the 32-foot high wall in left for a 4-0 advantage. With two down, Tyler Wade lined the first pitch he saw down the line in right and just inside the foul pole for a 5-0 lead.

Mike King, making his second Triple-A start, allowed one hit over the first four innings; a double to former RailRider Rob Refsnyder in the second. Rain began to fall in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fifth with one out, the game went into a delay. After 41 minutes, play resumed with both starters still in the game. The Bulls Forrest Snow finished a 1-2-3 fifth. King allowed a one-out single in the home half of the fifth but kept his shutout bid intact.

In the top of the sixth, Urshela's second double of the game plated Payton from first for a 6-0 lead. Durham scored twice in the seventh on a solo home run by Refsynder and a RBI-single from Mac James to cut the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre advantage down to four runs. Andrew Velazquez hit a solo home run in the ninth to cap the scoring.

DOESN'T GET ANY EASIER: Tuesday night at PNC Field, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre begins a seven-game homestand against Indianapolis and Norfolk. The Indians hold down first place in the I.L. West with a 1.5-game lead over Columbus. Columbus holds the Wild Card lead over both the Norfolk Tides and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre who are both 1.5 games back and who both are scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday night. Following the homestand, the RailRiders finish the 2018 regular season against I.L. North teams- Buffalo (3G), Lehigh Valley (4G), Syracuse (3G) and Pawtucket (4G).

BUSINESS IS McBOOMING: INF/OF Ryan McBroom finished 4-for-13 in the most recent series @ Durham with 2 HR and 5 RBI. The 1B/OF was riding his third 8G hitting streak of the season into the series finale before finishing 0-for-4 with 3K Sunday evening. Over the hit streak- which fell one-game shy of matching the season-high by a RailRider in 2018- he was 14-for-32 (.434 AVG). During the road trip, McBroom went 11-for-25 (.440 AVG) with three different three-hit games to raise his season AVG from .292 to .304 entering Tuesday. He is one of five players in the IL this season hitting above .300, but trails Pawtucket's OF Rusney Castillo (.325 AVG) by 21 points for the league lead in that category.

PLAYING FOR THE SPLIT: After winning the Norfolk series 2-1 to open the road trip, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre secured a win in the series finale to avoid having been swept at Durham and to earn a split of the six-game road swing. By coming away with a 6-3 win Sunday, the RailRiders still have not been swept in a series since May 18-20 at Buffalo.

DOING THE MATH: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders enter Tuesday against the Norfolk Tides in 2nd place in the I.L. North, 10.5 games behind the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The RailRiders have 21 games left in their season, and if they were to go 17-4 (.810) down the stretch to reach 78 wins, they'd need Lehigh Valley to play no better than 5-15 (.250) in order to win the division title. Lehigh Valley is 73-47 entering play tonight..
