Bisons Club Six Homers in 14-5 Win

BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte is known for having one of the best views in baseball. Indeed, the scoreboard looked great on Tuesday night.

The Bisons hit six home runs, including two from Rowdy Tellez, in a 14-5 thumping of the Knights. The Herd pounded out 18 hits and was held off the scoreboard in just two of the nine frames they batted in.

Billy McKinney, Darnell Sweeney, Reese McGuire and Dwight Smith Jr. also had home runs for the Bisons who hit six out for the first time since May of 2012. Eleven of the team's total 18 hits went for extra bases.

McKinney was the first two leave the yard, as his second in as many games got the Herd on the scoreboard in the second. Sweeney led off the third with a monster shot to straight away center before Tellez went deep for the first time for a two-run shot later in the frame. That made the score 4-1 Bisons.

Buffalo kept coming in the fourth when Reese McGuire led off inning with his seventh of the year. The Bisons then put the game out of reach with a four-run fifth that, ironically, did not include a longball. It did, however, include the first of two RBI-doubles from Anthony Alford.

Ahead 9-2, the Bisons poured it on in the seventh with Smith Jr.'s fifth of the year and RBI doubles from Alford and McGuire. Tellez homered again in the eight and Smith Jr. doubled home a run in the ninth to complete the onslaught.

Tellez finished the game 3-5 with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Six different Bisons scored multiple times, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr. who was 1-4 with a walk.

The last time the Bisons hit six home runs in a game was an 11-6 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on May, 19, 2012. Vinny Rottino hit three of those six home runs.

Not to be lost in all the offense is the work done by Michael Hauschild in his Herd debut. The righty allowed two runs in five innings of work with a pair of strikeouts. With the baseballs flying out of the park, Hauschild did well keep things on the infield with 10 groundball outs to only two fly outs.

Taylor Guerrieri and Claudio Custodio each worked two innings of relief to nail down the win.

Buffalo has now won three in a row and will look for the sweep tomorrow night against the Knights (7:04 p.m.).
