LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Louisville Bats (52-66) dropped the middle game of a three-game series to the Gwinnett Stripers (57-61) by a 5-4 score on Tuesday at Coolray Field.

The Bats led early on, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Brian O'Grady led off the game with a triple, scoring on Gabriel Guerrero's RBI single. Guerrero came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Tim Federowicz. The Bats' two-run first inning snapped a season-long 23 innings without scoring run.

Louisville's starting pitcher, right-hander Tyler Mahle (0-1, 4.91) had a decent outing in his second start for the Bats this season, going 5.0 innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits and two home runs, walking two and striking out four on 82 pitches (49 strikes).

For Gwinnett, Danny Santana hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first and pinch-hitter Xavier Avery clubbed a two-run shot in the fifth. Bats second baseman Josh VanMeter also hit a home run, his seventh of the game.

The Bats took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth after Tim Federowicz doubled and scored on a C.J. McElroy single, a close play at the plate. Federowicz barely slid past Gwinnett catcher Alex Jackson's glove to give Louisville a one-run lead.

The Stripers tied the game in the bottom of the seventh off Louisville reliever, and former Gwinnett pitcher, Matt Wisler. The Stripers would take a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth off Louisville reliever Austin Brice after Dustin Peterson drove in Danny Santana with a double.

Louisville has now lost four games in a row, and looks to avoid being swept at Coolray Field for the second straight season. Louisville right-hander Lucas Sims (0-0, 1.64) is set to make a start against his former team, with Gwinnett countering with right-hander Bryse Wilson (2-0, 7.50). Wednesday's first pitch is once again set for 7:05 p.m.
