Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Aaron Judge posted his IL-best 15th home run, but his RailRiders fell to the PawSox at McCoy Stadium on Saturday night, 7-3.
JUDGMENT DAY: Judge's blast has him tied with Columbus' Jesus Aguilar for the most big flies in the IL. He paces the team and stands fourth in the loop with 44 RBIs. He saw his batting average bottom out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has reached base in 19 of 21, going 28-for-75 with eight homers, 19 RBIs, 16 walks and 25 runs scored. In that time he has slashed .373/.495/.760/1.255. His season-long OBP has risen by over 60 points (.285-.347) with 50% of his overall walk total in the 21-game run. All eight of those homers have come over his last 13 games played and six in his last seven.
SOL MAN: Donovan Solano launched his fourth homer of the year on a 2-for-4 night. A .259 hitter after an 0-for-4 day versus Charlotte on June 8, he has since gone 23-for-56, slashing .411/.441/.625/1.066 with nine multi-hit efforts and three homers over that 15-game span.
THE COKE SIDE OF LIFE: Phil Coke (3-2) took the loss despite allowing just one earned run over his four frames. Four of his nine total scores allowed on the season have been unearned. In six starts with SWB, he owns a 2-2 record despite a 0.94 ERA, .193 batting average against and 0.94 WHIP. Overall, he owns 26 strikeouts against six walks at Triple-A this season.
INTERNATIONAL (LEAGUE) MAN OF MYSTERY: Tyler Austin slammed a career-best three big flies for the RailRiders on Friday, tying the SWB franchise record. He delivered a two-out, three-run shot in the first and leadoff solo jobs to left in the fourth and right in the sixth. He finished the night with five RBIs. Austin had eight doubles, four homers and 27 RBIs over 73 games played and 299 plate appearances with last year's RailRiders, slashing .235/.309/.311/.619. In 19 games and 77 plate appearances at Triple-A this season, he has eight doubles, six homers and 20 RBIs, slashing .290/.351/.667/1.017.
THREE MUSKETEERS: Austin became the third SWB player to launch three homers in a single game. Gary Bennett blasted three dingers at Buffalo in an extra-inning game on Aug. 16, 1998. Zoilo Almonte turned the trick at Gwinnett on July 23, 2014. Austin became the second IL player to smash three homers in a single game this year, joining Rochester's Adam Brett Walker who accomplished the feat on May 21 at Durham.
NEXT TIME GADGET, NEXT TIME: The RailRiders posted more wins against Pawtucket (13-6) than any other team in 2015. They went 5-3 in the Ocean State and 8-3 at PNC Field. At 6-3 against the PawSox this season, they have taken 14 of 20 and 25 of 34 in the series going back to 2014. That includes wins in 16 of 20 at McCoy Stadium, outscoring the PawSox, 96-53.
ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders own the IL's best road record at 23-14. They stand on pace to win 45 games away from NEPA. That would tie the franchise record set by Marc Bombard's 2002 Red Barons who won 91 total games with players like Chase Utley, Marlon Byrd, Brett Myers and Joe Roa. At PNC Field, SWB has slashed .254/.315/.386/.701 while scoring 4.00 runs/game. On the road, the team has slashed .268/.341/.418/.759 while scoring 4.92 runs/game.
OFF THE RAILS: The RailRiders fell a homer shy of the single-game team record on Friday...The Red Barons bashed seven at Toledo on May 31, 1998...The PawSox own the IL's third-best team ERA (3.32), but have allowed the second-most homers (64) trailing only Charlotte (66)...McCoy Stadium has witnessed 40 (63%) of the homers, but the staff's road ERA (3.32) is slightly better than its home mark (3.33).
