Pigs Hold on to Top Bulls in 10th, 3-2
June 26, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
David Lough's go-ahead RBI groundout in the top of the 10th helped lift the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (45-32) to a 3-2 win and three-game sweep of the Durham Bulls (34-44) on Sunday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Brock Stassi led off the top of the 10th with a double, pinch-runner Cam Perkins advanced to third on a single and later scored on Lough's groundout to give the Pigs a 2-1 lead. Later in the frame, Logan Moore's RBI double extended the lead to 3-1 for the visitors.
In the bottom of the 10th, the Bulls cut the lead to 3-2 when a run scored on an error charged to Pigs 3B Taylor Featherston and had the bases loaded with one out, but RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB) got J.P. Arencibia to ground into a 5-4-3 double play and end the game.
RHP Dylan Floro (2.0 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER) was tagged with the loss for Durham and drops to 1-2 on the year.
RHP Luis Garcia (0.1 IP) earned the win for the Pigs to improve to 6-1 on the season.
The IronPigs had tied things at one apiece in the top of the ninth when Emmanuel Burriss (2-5, 2B, R) got on base with a one-out double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Nick Williams' two-out RBI single.
Williams (2-4, RBI) had extended his season-long hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the fourth.
Durham jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first when Jake Goebbert reached on an error charged to Burriss, advanced to second on a single and scored on Arencibia's RBI double.
Pigs starter Jake Thompson (n/d) gave up the one run (none earned) on five hits to go along with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.1 IP.
In his Triple-A debut, Bulls starter Jacob Faria (n/d) allowed two hits while walking one and fanning six over six shutout innings.
Leading 1-0 at the time, Durham had a chance to tack on an insurance run in the seventh with runners at second and third with one out, but RHP Phil Klein (2.1 IP, K) came on in relief of Thompson and got Eury Perez to ground into a force out and Johnny Field to fly out and end the threat.
Cedric Hunter (2-3, R) also had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.
The Pigs will return home to begin a three-game set with the Columbus Clippers on Monday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is slated for 7:05 p.m. as RHP Ben Lively (3-0, 2.45) gets the ball for Lehigh Valley against Columbus LHP Ross Detwiler (1-4, 4.88).
