Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

YESTERDAY: The RailRiders jumped out to an early seven-run lead and cruised to an 8-2 victory behind a dominant Luis Severino on Sunday afternoon. The RailRiders claimed two of three from the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (27-45) at Coca-Cola Park to earn their fourth consecutive series triumph. SWB went 4-2 on its road trip through Rochester and Allentown.

THAT'S A START: Severino (3-0) hurled a career-best 7.2 innings while striking out seven against no walks. He yielded two unearned runs on four hits en route to his third win in as many starts.

NINE IS FINE: Despite a nearly week-long layoff in the wake of being hit in the head with a fastball, Austin Romine has assembled a nine-game hitting streak. He has hit .333 (12-for-37) over his run with 12 RBIs. On the season, he has hit nearly 40 points better on the road than at home (.271-.235) with four of his five home runs and 21 of his 29 RBIs.

WHAT GOES UP...: Jose Pirela's first game in his latest stint as a RailRider saw him go 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored against Rochester on June 12. That effort brought his Triple-A batting average this season to .583 in five games played. In eight games played since, he has hit just .080 (4-for-33) with eight strikeouts, two walks, one extra-base hit and two RBIs.

LORD I WAS BORN A GAMELING MAN: Ben Gamel went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and two runs scored. Thrust into the role after the promotions of Slade Heathcott and Mason Williams, Gamel has hit .339 in 14 games played atop the SWB lineup with five extra-base hits and eight RBIs. He leads the team with 24 multi-hit efforts.

HIT MACHINE: In seven games as a RailRider, Gregorio Petit has hit .480 (12-for-25) with a .552 OBP, .560 SLG, 1.112 OPS.

GETTIN' FIGGY WITH IT: Since his 0-for-3 day dropped his average to .184 on May 11 at Norfolk, Cole Figueroa has gone 44-for-122 in a span of 32 games played. He ranks among the IL's top four in all four slashes over that time: .361/.414/.508/.922.

ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders stand three games below .500 at PNC Field (17-20) and 14 games over on the road (24-10). The team has hit .281 on the road compared to a .259 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 178 runs in 34 games (5.2/game). At home, the squad has plated 139 runs in 37 games (3.8/game). The pitching has performed better at home (3.25 ERA) than on the road (3.45 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.706), who have won 17 of 20 away from PNC Field.

HALFWAY HOME: After tonight, the RailRiders will be halfway through their 144-game campaign. The team is currently on pace to win 83 games this season. No IL North team has won that many games since the 2012 SWB squad took the division at 84-60. No IL team other than SWB has won that many games since Pawtucket went 85-58 in 2009 when the Red Sox took the wild-card spot behind the 88-56 SWB Yankees.

LET'S GET READY TO RUMBELOW: Nick Rumbelow is likely to be promoted to the Yankees today. On Friday he dominated over three scoreless innings behind Ivan Nova. He struck out six and walked none. Over his 35.1 innings, he struck out 41 and walked just seven. His June consisted of 9.1 scoreless innings while stranding all five inherited men with 11 whiffs and no walks.

OFF THE RAILS: SWB leads the IronRail Series with Lehigh Valley, 4-2...In winning their last four series, the RailRiders have gone 10-3...Tyler Webb finished the game by retiring all four batters he faced...Kyle Roller smashed his team-best 10th home run yesterday...He ranks 5th in the IL behind four IL South hitters.
