Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - Dylan Axelrod held the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) without a hit through five innings and the Louisville Bats left PNC Field with a 4-2 victory on Monday night. The RailRiders (41-31) fell to 17-21 at home while the Bats (35-36) climbed to within a game of .500.
Kyle Davies (5-5) shouldered his fifth loss after allowing four runs on 10 hits over five innings. Axelrod (4-5) allowed two runs on five hits over 6.1 frames. Jumbo Diaz tossed a scoreless ninth for his third save.
Aaron Judge finished 1-for-4 in his Triple-A debut. The outfielder bounced an infield single to short in the seventh for his first hit with the RailRiders.
While Axelrod held SWB without a hit through four innings, the Bats built a 4-0 lead against Davies. Jason Bourgeois cracked the seal on a scoreless game with a two-out triple in the fifth that scored Ryan LaMarre. Hernan Irribarren followed with a hit to score Bourgeois. A two-run single by Irving Falu in the sixth gave the Bats their largest lead of the evening.
Ben Gamel finally solved Axelrod in the last of the sixth. The center fielder bombed his eighth triple of the season over LaMarre's head in straightaway center. Jose Pirela laced a double into the left field corner immediately after to plate Gamel.
Kyle Roller capped the scoring by launching his 11th home run of the season. The solo shot left over the right-center wall in the seventh.
The boys of SWB continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds). Right-hander Esmil Rogers (0-0, 13.50) is scheduled to face right-hander Donovan Hand (1-3, 4.50). The first 2,500 fans in attendance for the RaiRiders game on Saturday, June 27, against the Buffalo Bisons will receive a Rob Refsnyder bobblehead, presented by Keystone Sanitary Landfill.
